Children’s Librarian, Seabrook Library, Seabrook NH

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:   This is a full-time position responsible for providing library services and resources for children. This role involves planning and implementing programs, assisting with research and reference inquiries, promoting literacy, creating a love of reading, and creating a welcoming and engaging environment for young library patrons.  Occasional circulation desk coverage is also required.  Reports to the Director.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:  MLS degree preferred.  Experience working with children of all ages, as well as parents/caregivers.  Library experience is preferred, but not required.  A combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skill, and ability may be considered.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

·         Demonstrated ability to relate to and maintain discipline among children, to communicate effectively with them and their parents.

·         Ability to work independently.

·         Knowledge of computers, library automation systems, and familiarity with audiovisual and office equipment.

·         Ability to pass SAU 21 criminal background check per RSA 189:13-a.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

 

·         Plans, promotes and conducts programs for children and their families.

·         Provides readers with advisory and reference services.

·         Develops, weeds, and maintains the collection of all materials for the youth department in conjunction with the selection policy.

·         Develops and maintains the library website page for youth, as well as the calendar of events.

·         Creates inviting displays and exhibits to stimulate interest in the library and youth services collection.

·         Communicates with other libraries, local schools, home-schooling families, and other community organizations to promote library services and collections.

·         Attends professional meetings at the discretion of the Director.

·         Assists at the circulation desk.

·         Perform other duties as requested by the Director.

 

 

 

40 hours per week, Monday -Friday, with one evening and a Saturday on rotation.

Children's Services Librarian, Pembroke Town Library, Pembroke, NH

Job Description:

 Come join our amazing library! The Pembroke Town Library, seeks one part-time Children’s Services Librarian for 30 hours per week. The children’s librarian performs varied administrative and professional library work related to planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Children’s Department, which serves patrons ranging in age from pre-school through grade 12.

Some job duties include;
• Plans, organizes, and supervises story hours and other programs for children
• Assists patrons in using the online catalog and other electronic tools and resources; assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment, and facilities
• Submits to the Library Director purchase order requisitions for Children’s Department materials, equipment, and other proposed purchases; verifies and refers to the Library Director for payment invoices for Children’s Department orders
• Selects materials for acquisition and withdrawal from the children’s printer and non-print collections; supervises the organization, maintenance, preservation, withdrawal, and disposal of materials.
• Provides reference and reader’s advisory guidance to children, parents, and teachers
• Creates bibliographies, user guides, promotional materials, and publicity spotlighting Children’s Department collections, services, and programs
• Creates displays to enhance the library experience and to promote use of library resources
• Maintains knowledge of the automated circulation and technical services systems and assists with circulation and technical services tasks, as needed

This job will require frequent bending, lifting, kneeling, carrying, pushing and standing with very little sitting.

Requirement:

Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution OR minimum of 3-years’ experience working with children’s library services, children’s literature and reference resources, and online searching preferred. Some supervisory experience is a plus.

Benefits:

Youth Assistant Librarian, Rye Public Library, Rye, NH

 

The Rye Public Library is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and highly organized self-starter to join our youth department as the RPL Youth Assistant Librarian. Our newly hired librarian will work with youth of all ages. Interested parties should be prepared to create and run programs for our wonderful youth population, and will also be responsible for some administrative tasks as well as other duties as assigned. 

 

This full-time position offers benefits and requires some day, evening, and weekend hours.

 

Primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of youth programs with a focus on middle school and teen programming as well as overseeing ongoing programming already in place; passion for working with children and teens is a must! The position will also require shelving, collection development, readers advisory-including conducting reference interviews, preparing weekly programming announcements and updating our online calendar. Website and social media platform updates, as well as working at the circulation desk, and other assigned duties are additional parts of the position.

 

Skill/Qualifications

·        An MLIS degree, or enrollment in an MLIS program, is preferred

·        The ability to work independently and is a self-starter

·        A positive attitude and ability to work with a team

·        A working knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, youth literature

·        A passion for working with youth of all ages

·        An understanding of the daily operations of a library

·        Excellent organizational, readers' advisory, and interpersonal skills

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills

·        At least two years' experience in teen programming or similar experience

·        The ability to manage events with large groups of people

·        Strong public speaking skills

·        An understanding of and capacity for using emerging technologies

·        A working knowledge of social media platforms, with an emphasis on Instagram and TikTok

·        Experience with 3D printing, Canva, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher

·        Strong technology skills, with an emphasis on website work

·        The ability to pivot and adapt to workplace change

·        The ability to think creatively, innovate, and generate forward-thinking ideas

 Job Description:

The Samuel H. Wentworth Library is seeking two service-focused, highly organized, assistant librarians to work at our busy circulation desk one or two days per week (Wednesday through Friday), and one Saturday a month. These positions provide a wide range of circulation, reference and technological services and require the ability to assist our diverse range of patrons with tact, courtesy and efficiency. Proficiency in handling frequent shifts of focus is essential. The ideal candidates will be regular readers, very detail oriented and experienced in exercising initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations. These positions are appointed by the library trustees and are supervised by the library director.

*Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate judgment in handling information and records is essential.

The Samuel H. This is an 8 hour a week, part-time position that requires some availability after school (September to June), either a Thursday or Friday morning weekly, and one Saturday morning a month. *A high school or GED degree is required. A college degree and/or coursework in elementary education is preferred.
*Experience working directly with youth is required.
*Ability to read to children with lively expression and to incorporate fingerplay and body movement within story times. Singing and/or instrumental accompaniment is a plus!
*Ability to successfully plan, implement and carry out innovative, age-appropriate children’s and Young Adult programming.
*Thorough knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, children’s literature, authors and interests.
